There is a great deal of information on the internet about best ways to improve speaking and talking in dysarthria.  There are also many who mean well when they post suggestions of what to do.  Many of the solutions are posted by people who may not really have expertise with dysarthria and are actually repeating the same old, warn out suggestions that educators and others have listed for years.  


The Use of Therapy Workbooks for Dysarthria

Then there are those who publish workbooks for dysarthria and state that sitting down with written exercises will help one speak better.  The problem is, however, there may not be actually anyone who is sitting down with that person and talking.  We all know that if you are going to talk, you do so by talking, and talking requires the interaction of two people who are asking each other questions and answering them!  Having a person sit down with a notebook of exercises has very limited value, since there is no feedback and how is the person who has dysarthria going to know if their message is understood?  


The Use of I-Pads and Apps for Dysarthria

The same applies to i pads and computer progreams that purport to be valuable for people with dysarthria.  However they are not human, nor can they figure out any speaking challenges which often come up with the treatment of dysarthria.  They can not assure that anyone is speaking loudly enough or at the right speed.  A computer is a machine, not a human being who is capable of helping the person with dysarthria within conversations.
